Jonathan Thomson

Jonathan Thomson was born in Greenock, Scotland, in 1984 and started playing in a local brass band at the age of six. At the age of ten he was accepted on trumpet and piano into the Junior School of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music. He later gained a BMus (hons) degree from RSAMD, studying with Peter Franks and John Gracie.

During his undergraduate studies Jonathan spent a year studying at the Eastman School of Music in New York under Professor James Thompson and a month of study at the Feiburg Hochschüle Fur Musik with Anthony Plog. He has recently spent a further year of study at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where his teachers were John Miller and Jamie Prophet.

Jonathan is in demand as an orchestral player, chamber musician, soloist and musician actor and has played with orchestras and companies such as the BBC Philharmonic, Opera North and the Royal Shakespeare Company and at the Montepulciano Summer Festival and Edinburgh Festival. He became a Stomvi artist in 2005 and plays on a Stomvi B flat and C trumpets and Flügelhorn.
