Jonathan graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in July 2007, also winning the Terence Nagel Prize in the brass soloist competition that year. Since then he has been freelancing throughout the northwest with ensembles such as Manchester Concert Orchestra and Phoenix Arts Opera.
Jonathan grew up in Merseyside and started playing the horn at the age of ten with local teacher Alan Milnes. He then went on to study with Tim Jackson and Lindsey Stoker at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, before joining Wells Cathedral School, learning horn with Simon de Souza.
Jonathan has played principal horn in a variety of ensembles, including the Merseyside Youth Orchestra, National Youth Wind Ensemble, University of Manchester Symphony Orchestra and the RNCM Opera Orchestra and Brass Ensemble, and has had the privilege to play with the internationally renowned London Winds and All Souls Orchestra.
Jonathan made his concerto debut in 2006, playing Mozart’s 3rd horn concerto with Con Fuoco chamber orchestra and that year he also spent a week in Italy, playing for a conducting course with Gianandrea Noseda, principal conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. He also has a desire to bring the horn to a wider variety of people, and to that end, he has been giving school assembly workshops and helping out with a number of youth orchestras.
