>> The Celestial Duo > Trumpet
Jason began piano lessons at age 13, broadening a year later when he commenced study of the organ with Mr. RN. Birbeck of Warrington Parish Church. He continued his piano studies until the age of 18 with Rita Griffiths, David Wheeler, and Damian Girvin.
A period of occasional deputizing at the Parish Church led to him being appointed Organ Scholar in June 2003, and he has deputized in and been organist of various churches in the Warrington and Manchester areas.
Since September 2005 he has studied organ under Darius Battiwalla at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. He has also received tuition from Jeffrey Makinson of Manchester Cathedral and taken part in master classes given by Colm Carey and Jeremy Filsell. It was at RNCM that Jason met Joel Cooper and formed a trumpet and organ Duo, the Celestial Duo.
Jason has a special interest in the music of the German late Romantic school, in particular that of Max Reger and its interpretation at the hands of Karl Straube, although he enjoys playing a wide variety of music from Buxtehude, Bach and Stanley to Widor, Howells and Messiaen. In his spare time he enjoys real ales, traditional West-country cider, and 1960s cult television.
